Game 1 Box Game 2 Box
In game 1, the Lynx got on the board in the bottom of the 1st, scoring a run courtesy of a walk and a Tiger error. Amanda Lutzy walked and was forced out at second on a fielder's choice by Bartolomei, who later advanced to second on a passed ball. Bartolomei scored following an error by the Tiger's second baseman, giving the Lynx a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers mounted a threat in the 3rd, with back to back singles and a walk to load the bases with two outs, but Bartolomei struck out Carmen Robinson to end the threat. The Tigers again loaded the bases in the 5th, this time with only 1 out, and appeared poised for a big inning, but it was Bartolomei who answered the call again, notching back to back strikeouts of Nicole Scommegna and Robinson.
Rhodes again took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Tigers, adding a run in the bottom half of the 5th. Conn led off with a single up the middle, then advanced to second when Lutzy laid down a bunt and reaced base on an error. Bartolomei laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Conn to third and Lutzy to second with one out. Rebekah Moore delivered a sacrifice fly to score Conn, giving the Lynx a 2-0 lead.
The Lynx added 2 insurance runs in the 6th on a 2-run home run by Conn, the first round tripper of her career, and took a 4-0 lead into the 7th. The Tigers would score an unearned run in the top of the 7th on a pair of singles and Lynx error, and had the bases loaded when Bartolomei induced Sarah Millsap into a groundout to end the game.
Bartolomei struck out 9 and gave up just 5 hits in the circle, picking up the win and moving to 6-6 on the season. Conn had the Lynx only 2 hits of the game, but the Lynx proved themselves opportunistic in taking advantage of the Tigers' 2 fielding miscues.
Game 2 was all Rhodes from the start, as the Lynx notched 2 runs in the home half of the 1st. Conn led off with a single, and advanced to second when the Tigers misplayed a sacrifice bunt by Lutzy. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Rebekah Moore delivered an RBI single to score Conn, followed by an RBI double by Sara Bowen to score Lutzy and give the Lynx a 2-0 lead.
That would be all of the offense the Lynx needed, as Bowen retired the first 10 Tigers she faced, and went on to toss her second no-hitter of the season, notching 10 strikeouts and allowing just 1 walk along the way.
The Lynx added 5 insurance runs in the 3rd, stringing together 6 singles and a walk, highlighted by a 2-run single by Conn. Rhodes added another run in the 5th, when Armanda Venezia, Jennifer Whatley and Conn each singled to load the bases, and pinch hitter Karli Alvino walked, scoring pinch runner Hillary Relyea to give the Lynx the 8-0 win in a game shortened due to the 8-run mercy rule.
Rhodes improves to 11-19 overall and 4-10 in the SCAC, while Colorado College falls to 5-30 overall and 2-12 in the SCAC. The teams will conclude the 2008 season tomorrow with another doubleheader, with first pitch set for 11:00am.
